What Happened?
In January of 2021, Anderson, then 16 years old, placed his baby daughter, Harper, in a fallen tree in the woods near his home. He later shot her twice in the head when she began crying, according to investigators.
According to WMTV, his girlfriend had just given birth to their daughter in a bathtub at her home.
However, he initially told investigators that he left the child to die in a snow-filled tree before admitting to shooting her twice in the head. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in February 2021. Prosecutors said he covered her with snow and walked away.
An expert from the Wisconsin State Crime lab said the baby was likely alive when she was placed in the tree.
Baby’s Grandfather Alerted Authorities
Authorities received a 911 call from a man who said his teenage daughter had given birth and that the baby had not been seen for four days after Anderson took her.
The baby’s mother said Anderson believed they could not keep the child and wanted to ensure she was no longer in their lives.

During the investigation, Anderson told a deputy that he gave his daughter to an individual named Tyler, whom he befriended on Snapchat. Anderson claimed he asked Tyler to take the baby to an adoption agency in Madison.
He added he gave Tyler $60 to drop his daughter off at an adoption agency.
“It’s about one person bent on erasing a problem, because that was what Harper was to him. A problem to s-rew up his life, so he got rid of her, so he just tried to make her go away,” prosecutor Adrienne Blais said during his trial.
