Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers might have accessed a video of her bedroom that later helped them carry out her abduction. A video of the missing woman’s bedroom, taken in 2013, resurfaced after journalist Megyn Kelly shared it on her YouTube channel.
The clip is from the time when Nancy Guthrie made an appearance on her daughter, Savannah Guthrie’s, morning show, Today. At the time, Nancy connected with Today anchors live from her home in Tucson, Arizona. It was a lighthearted segment as she showed the anchors how to make a bed.
Kelly Says the Clip Could Have Aided Kidnappers
A video of Nancy Guthrie's bedroom, taken in 2013, resurfaces as investigation into missing case deepens.
Kelly said the jovial video could have been used by Nancy Guthrie's kidnappers for sinister purposes. The clip clearly showed the layout of Nancy’s bedroom and revealed where she slept every night.
Considering that Guthrie was in her 70s in 2013, Kelly said it is likely that the elderly woman did not frequently change her room layout. Kelly said kidnappers could have watched the video and used it to plan the abduction.
“What's interesting about that clip is you can see where she slept every night, and you can see exactly what this abductor must have walked into. I mean, does anybody's mother dramatically overhaul their, you know, bedroom when they're in their 80s, 70s?” Kelly said.
Talking about how Guthrie's bedroom setup was visible in the video, Kelly said, “What you're seeing is a bed. It looks like it's a king, might be a queen at the smallest. Right next to it, you can see the side table with a small lamp and some books stacked there, and maybe a foot and a half off of that is the window leading right into her bedroom.”
How the Video Could Have Been Used by Ransom Seekers
Multiple theories have emerged since the alleged abduction of Nancy Guthrie.
The journalist added that another possibility is that the people who sent ransom notes to media outlets shortly after Guthrie’s abduction may have used the video to distract investigative agencies.
“I could go right now and write a very convincing kidnap note on Nancy Guthrie. I could describe the inside of that room to a T, and if you didn't know that the Today Show had aired that footage in 2013, you would be very convinced that I had been inside Nancy Guthrie's bedroom,” Kelly said.
Talking about how fake ransom seekers could have used the clip, Kelly said, “We had an alleged kidnapper note early on in the Nancy Guthrie scandal, claiming they knew exactly where she kept her Apple Watch. And they had described something inside Nancy's bedroom. Did those people behind that note see this segment?”
It is not yet clear whether the investigators are aware of the video in question. Guthrie was taken from her home on the night of January 31. She was reported missing on February 1. Surveillance camera footage later showed a masked man tampering with the property’s Ring camera on the night of the abduction.
Despite widespread media attention and an extensive investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the case remains unsolved for now. The Guthrie family has announced a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie.
