DoorDash Driver Who Shot Man While Delivering Baby Formula Says ‘I Messed Up’

A DoorDash driver was arrested for allegedly shooting a man to death.
A DoorDash driver was arrested for allegedly shooting a man to death in front of multiple witnesses, including the victim’s wife, authorities said. The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Edsel Robert Johnson, while the victim was identified as Bradley Allen Rex.
During a court appearance on May 11, the judge told Edsel Robert Johnson, "You made an extremely fatal and critical decision that day, and as a result of that decision, a member of our community here lost his life; his family lost a father, a brother.” Johnson is being held in the Kootenai County Jail without bond. His next court date has not been announced.

According to court records, the shooting occurred around 7 p.m. on May 9 as a crowd gathered at the Stateline Speedway in Post Falls for the Night Lights Sky Lantern Festival. Witnesses told investigators that Johnson was driving a silver van at a high speed, the wrong way on Beck Road.
The street was packed with people, most of whom moved out of Johnson's way. However, Rex did not. His wife told investigators that Rex was trying to protect bystanders. Rex allegedly swung a folding chair at the side of the vehicle, and the situation escalated quickly.
According to witnesses, Johnson stopped the van and charged at Rex. He allegedly “body slammed” him into a ditch and then returned to the vehicle. Rex, who was unarmed, approached the driver’s side window, and that is when Johnson allegedly fired a single shot at him and drove away.

Driver Admits That The Shooting ‘Should Not Have Happened’
Johnson rage killed a man who tried to protect pedestrian from his erratic driving.
Johnson called 911 and reported the shooting. He told dispatchers that the victim had struck his vehicle and said he “didn’t want to shoot him but had stuff to do.”
The shooting was captured by bystanders. Videos show Rex approaching the vehicle as Johnson was closing the door. The driver then pointed a black object at him, and Rex collapsed to the ground.
In an interview with detectives, Johnson said he was delivering baby formula and things “got crazy.” However, he admitted that he “messed up,” and the shooting “should not have happened.”
“I have no idea why I did that,” he said. The accused added, “He was pulling my door. What was I supposed to do? "Why didn't he just get out of my way?”
