Duggars Case Update: Florida and Arkansas Charges Explained, What Happens Next

Joseph Duggar and his wife are facing child endangerment charges.
The former 19 Kinds and Counting star, Joseph Duggar, has been accused of molesting a minor in 2020 in Florida, while he and his wife, Kendra, are also facing charges regarding child endangerment. Police said the two cases are separate, occurred at different times and have no connection with each other. The two cases against Joseph Duggar are unfolding simultaneously in two different states and, together, appear to be a complex legal battle for the Duggars.
Joseph Duggar plead not guilty to child endangerment charges.
Both Joseph and Kendra Duggar are parents of four children. While Joseph is out on bail of $600,000, he has been strictly prohibited by the court from contacting any minor. He is only allowed supervised visitation with his children.
Kendra Duggar was also initially asked not to contact any minors, but the court has since allowed her visitation with her children.
Details of the Florida Case
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph Duggar was initially charged in 2020 in connection with a case of molestation. He allegedly molested a minor girl in Panama Beach City, Florida, while he was there on vacation.
The sheriff’s office said, “As the vacation continued, Joseph also asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket. During this time, Joseph manipulated the victim’s underwear and gazed her genitals. He also continued to rub his hands on her thighs.”

Police alleged Joseph Duggar confessed to his actions when the girl’s father confronted him. Joseph was arrested on March 18 and charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 years old. Joseph has since posted bail and was released with conditions of no unsupervised contact with minors.
The Details of the Arkansas Case
Two days after Joseph’s arrest, on March 20, 2020, police in Tontitown, Arkansas, arrested his wife, Kendar Duggar, and charged the couple with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of false imprisonment.
Kendar was released after posting bond. Police confirmed that the Florida case is not connected to the Arkansas case, although Joseph is accused in both matters, which are unrelated.
Unlike the Florida case, which focuses on Joseph’s past alleged abuse, the Arkansas case is related to recent investigations into conditions involving the children in the couple’s home. According to People, the charges were tied to a home inspection that raised concerns about conditions, including door locks reportedly located on the exterior of doors.
Legal experts said that even though the two cases are separate, complexities may arise as they proceed because the incidents involve individuals in the same household.
