Eric Swalwell Investigation: Los Angeles DA Office Takes Swift Steps In High Profile Case

Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell is facing criticism after accusations of se--al abuse by a 50-year-old woman. With the investigation underway, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has recently assigned a prosecutor to the case.

Meanwhile, the representative’s actions are being reviewed with the assistance of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau. The accuser, Lonna Drewes, also submitted evidence to the West Hollywood sheriff’s station after making her allegations public.

Model Lonna Drewes accused Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of se--al harassment at the Montrose West Hollywood hotel. The two, who had reportedly been seen together frequently, were scheduled to attend a political event that day. During a press conference, she alleged that the Democrat drugged and ch--ed her before se--ally assaulting her on July 18, 2018.

In her words, “He said he needed to get paperwork from his hotel room. When I arrived at his hotel room, I was already incapacitated, and I couldn’t move my arms over my body. He ra--d me, and he choked me. While he was choking me, I lost consciousness. I thought I died.”

After submitting evidence to the sheriff’s office on Tuesday, Drewes said she has sufficient proof, including text messages, photographs and journal entries, to support her claims against Swalwell.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Honchman confirmed that a criminal investigation based on Lonna Drewes’ claims has been launched against Eric. Similarly, spokespersons for LA Sheriff Robert Luna have also confirmed that the evidence submitted by the victim is being examined thoroughly.

The District Attorney assured that it has been cooperatively working with the Sheriff’s office on the case. Honchman further added, “Our office has assigned our S** Crimes Division to work closely with law enforcement partners as this investigation unfolds. When and if a case is presented, seasoned prosecutors will review the facts and evidence to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for charges to be filed.”

This hasn’t been the first time that Eric Swalwell has been facing accusations of se***** harassing women. Besides Lonna Drewes, four other women have narrated similar incidents against the Democratic Representative. While most of them were related to heinous crimes, it was one of his staffers who claimed to be se***** assaulted by him.

Amid the accusations against him, Eric Swalwell’s political career was affected when he dropped out of the governor’s race. Fellow Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi, called for a thorough investigation into his conduct on Friday. Others also called on him to resign in light of the allegations.

Eric Swalwell denied the allegations against him. He also reportedly sent cease-and-desist letters to at least two women who made accusations against him.

In a statement to CNN, Swalwell pointed to his 20-year career in public service.

He said, “These allegations are false and come on the eve of an election against the front-runner for governor. For nearly 20 years, I have served the public as a prosecutor and a congressman and have always protected women. I will defend myself with the facts and, where necessary, bring legal action.”
