Expert Warns Nancy Guthrie Suspect is ‘Truly Cunning’ as Case Remains Unsolved After Two Months

The investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has entered its third month. Despite thousands of leads and ongoing efforts by both the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the 84-year-old woman remains missing.
Early in the investigation, the FBI obtained footage of a masked individual tampering with the doorbell camera outside Nancy’s home. Detectives described him as a 5'9" to 5'10" tall male with an average build. He was seen carrying a 25-liter Ozark Trail hiker pack.
But the clue has not led to the identification of the suspect so far. After almost nine weeks of probe, the investigators have not been able to name or arrest Nancy’s kidnapper. An insider has stated that there are two possible reasons why the suspect has not been busted as of now.
Insider Says the Suspect is Either Lucky or Cunning

Speaking with investigative journalist and NewsNation correspondent Brian Entin, a law enforcement source highlighted that the kidnapper is either ‘lucky as h*** or more cunning than a lot of people seen in the past.’
The insider elaborated that if it’s merely luck, the suspect may eventually be caught. However, if he is truly cunning, he may have covered his tracks so well that tracking him down is proving exceptionally difficult for investigators.
The source said, “If you take the first extremely lucky, maybe his luck will run out, but so far it hasn’t. But if you take the second one, that he was extremely cunning, there’s a chance that he may have covered his tracks so well that we may not find out what happened.”
Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen by her family on the night of January 31. The following morning, she was reported missing when she failed to attend a virtual church service. According to her family, the house’s back doors were propped open when Nancy disappeared.

Investigators suspect the elderly woman was taken forcefully from her home in the middle of the night. Meanwhile, her critical medication was left behind. Due to a heart condition, Nancy relied on a pacemaker, which was disconnected from her phone around 2:30 AM on February 1.
Detectives have found DNA evidence from Nancy’s home, but it reportedly contains a mixed profile, making it extremely difficult for experts to analyze it. The victim’s family is offering $1 million, and the FBI has promised $100k to anyone who comes up with information about Nancy’s whereabouts.
But with the suspect still at large, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is facing mounting public pressure, with some even calling for his resignation. Experts have also claimed that mistakes made by Nanos’ team during the early stages of the investigation may have contributed to the lack of progress in the case.
But the sheriff hit back at critics on April 3 as he said in an interview with KVOA, “Discrediting an investigation like this doesn't help anything; it's very harmful. No, we don't believe there were any mistakes made.”
