Ever since Savannah Guthrie revealed that Nancy Guthrie’s home’s back doors were propped open during her disappearance, various theories have surfaced about the 84-year-old woman’s kidnapping.
Journalist Ashleigh Banfield has now divulged new details about the crime scene, revealing that kidnappers used flower pots to keep the doors open while they abducted Nancy Guthrie. Speaking on her Drop Dead Serious podcast on March 31, Banfield said law enforcement sources told her that Guthrie's flower pots were used to prop open the back doors.
Ashleigh Banfield Says Kidnappers Used Nancy’s Flower Pots to Leave the Back Doors Open
Ashleigh Banfield says kidnappers used Nancy Guthrie’s flower pots to prop open the back doors.
“It’s just so frustrating to think that filthy, vile beast deflowered that kitchen, that entrance, that family home. But he did. My sources say that’s where he got his entry. But that’s not the only thing that he did. He also took Nancy’s beautiful flower pots, and he propped open the back gate,” Banfield said.
The journalist also highlighted how the flowers nurtured by Nancy for years were employed in a sinister plot against her. “He [the kidnapper] took her beautiful flower pots that I can only imagine she spent time nurturing and making beautiful for her back patio, and he used them for his evil f****** plot,” Banfield added.
Talking about why the back doors were left open, Banfield suggested that the kidnappers might have planned to take Nancy out from the backyard to avoid cameras. However, when they realized that her fragile health would not allow her to walk that far, they changed their plan.
“Did he think, ‘Oh dear, I didn’t plan for this. Mrs. Guthrie can’t walk that far?’ Because Savannah’s now told us that on a good day, her mom could get to the mailbox, but there weren’t many days like that. So maybe this guy didn’t count on Mrs. Guthrie not being able to walk as far as he had planned to walk her. And so now he’s got to change his plan,” Banfield concluded.
Nancy Guthrie has been missing since February 1, and there is still no trace of her. Though the investigators found blood droplets at her home’s front door, and also recorded a masked man tampering with the ring camera, they still have not been able to determine what actually happened to her.
Savannah’s Statement About the Back Doors Being Propped Open
Savannah Guthrie had recently revealed that the backdoors of her mom's residence were propped open.
Nancy’s daughter, Savannah, revealed the backdoors being propped open during her recent interview with her Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb. The broadcast journalist said that since the doors were open, the family initially thought paramedics had arrived at Nancy’s home due to a medical emergency.
However, it soon became evident that Nancy had disappeared. The details about the back doors have helped experts conclude that more than one individual could be involved in the woman’s kidnapping. Retired detectives have pointed out that the culprit left the door open so that his accomplices could follow him into and out of the house.
April 1, will mark two months since the investigation began. Both the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continue to gather clues, but are still awaiting a breakthrough in the case.
