A new detail about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance emerged recently when Savannah Guthrie said in an interview that Nancy’s back door was propped open when she went missing.
“We thought that she must have had some kind of medical episode in the night and that somehow the paramedics had come. Because the back doors were propped open, you know, and that didn’t make any sense,” Savannah said in a conversation with Hoda Kotb.

Experts earlier pointed out that the door being propped open signaled that more than one individual was likely involved in the kidnapping. Another expert has a new theory about why the door was left open.
Former SWAT Commander Bob Krygier believes that the clue points towards a planned kidnapping. Krygier appeared for an interview with investigative reporter Brian Entin on March 30. During the interaction, he highlighted that investigators had found blood drops on the front porch of Nancy’s house, which indicates she went out of the front door.
However, Krygier said the kidnappers had a reason behind leaving the back door open. He said, “My hunch is they probably went out the front door because of the blood that was found out there. Unless that happened right away, and she happened to open the front door for them.”
“But if they [the back doors] were propped open obviously that was left for a reason. A quick in, quick out, whichever one it was,” the former lieutenant added. Krygier further said that the back door was likely propped open because the abductors did not want to waste any time during the kidnapping.

According to him, the criminals had planned everything beforehand, and leaving the back door open was not an accident, but a choice. “Depending on what your plan was, for me, it’s a quick way in, a quick way out,” Krygier said.
He concluded, “It's one less thing you think about opening the door, you don’t want it closing behind you, it automatically locks, and you don’t know how to unlock it.. It's a time thing…that way, too, you know exactly where you’re going.”

Another Theory About the Back Door
A few days ago, former New York Police Department detective Michael J. Alcazar explained that the propped-open door indicated that a team of kidnappers had abducted Nancy. Appearing on the Surviving the Survivor podcast, Alcazar said, “I think maybe he's working with other people, might have been the first person at the door and just leaving it open for his team.”
Amid the theories, the search for Nancy continues. The investigation is soon going to enter its third month without any arrests. The 84-year-old woman has been missing since February 1. As she was allegedly taken from her home in the middle of the night, her critical medication was left behind, which has raised concerns about her wellbeing.
The Guthrie family is offering a million dollars as a reward to anyone who comes up with information about Nancy’s current location. Meanwhile, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continue to gather clues in hopes of a breakthrough.
