FBI Offers $1M Reward for 300-Pound Suspect in 2019 L.A. Killing on Most Wanted List

The FBI has increased its reward to $1,000,000 for information leading to the arrest of California-based Omar Alexander Cardenas.
Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are searching for a murder suspect who weighs up to 300 pounds and are offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to his arrest. The suspect was recently added as the 528th person on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.
Omar Alexander Cardenas is wanted for his alleged involvement in the murder of a man on August 15, 2019, at a large outdoor shopping center in Sylmar, California. According to the FBI, Cardenas allegedly fired several rounds from a semi-automatic handgun at the victim, Jabari Dumas, striking him in the head and killing him.
The shooting happened near the Hair Icon Barber Shop, authorities said. Law enforcement officials believe the 46-year-old victim may not have known Cardenas.
The FBI said Cardenas should be considered “armed” and “dangerous”.
The suspect Omar Alexander Cardenas is accused of killing a man in front of a barbershop in 2019.
Arrest Warrants
An arrest warrant for Cardenas was issued on April 3, 2020, by the Superior Court of Los Angeles County after he was charged locally with murder.
A federal arrest warrant was later issued on September 2, 2021, by the United States District Court for the Central District of California after he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Special Agent Michael Alker of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office said in 2022, “At the scene of the crime, Mr. Cardenas is believed to have fired approximately six shots into a public space. He is not only a risk to the public, but he may also have information related to other violent crimes.”
Description of the Suspect
Cardenas, 30, is a California native with dark brown hair and brown eyes. According to the FBI, he stands about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs between 240 and 300 pounds.
Authorities describe him as a white Hispanic male who may have at least one tattoo.
Investigators said Cardenas is often seen wearing prescription glasses and has a beard.
“The FBI is offering a reward of up to $1,000,000 for information leading to the arrest of Omar Alexander Cardenas,” a statement on the official website reads.
Authorities said Cardenas is believed to be a member of the Pierce Street Gang and may associate with the Pacoima Van Nuys Boys/Anybody Killas. He goes by the nickname “Dollar.”
The FBI previously said Cardenas may work in construction because he has been employed in that field in the past.
Omar Alexander Cardenas is the 528th person on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.
The FBI’s Most Wanted List
The FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list was established in March 1950.
Other fugitives currently on the list who remain at large include Bhadreshkumar Chetanbhai Patel, Ruja Ignatova, Samuel Ramirez Jr., Yulan Adonay Archaga Carias, Fausto Isidro Meza-Flores, Giovanni Vicente Mosquera Serrano, and Wilver Villegas-Palomino.
