Listed below are five of the most shocking mass shootings that have occurred in the United States in 2026.
Mississippi Shootout Killed Six Adults And A Child
On January 10, a shooting rampage unfolded in Clay County, Mississippi. The suspect opened fire across three locations, killing seven people whose ages ranged from a 67-year-old man to a 7-year-old girl.
The victims included the suspect’s own family members, including his father, brother, and uncle. The child was killed at the second location. He then went to a third location, where he killed the remaining victims, who were members of a pastor’s family.
The suspect, Daricka Moore, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty as prosecutors seek the death penalty.
Fort Lauderdale Quadruple Murder
On February 10, a man shot and killed an elderly man and his wife inside their home in Sarasota. Police responding to the scene also found three additional victims. Investigators later linked the case to two earlier killings in Fort Lauderdale. The suspect was also found dead, in an apparent suicide.
Investigators said the incidents were connected. They identified the suspect as Russel Kort, who they say first killed his former partner and her son. A day later, he drove to her parents’ home, where the woman’s mother and brother were shot and killed. When the father arrived, he was also killed on the front lawn. Kort later died by suicide at the scene.
Austin Bar Shooting
On March 1, a mass shooting took place at Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden in downtown Austin. The suspect, Ndiaga Diagne, began shooting inside and outside the bar from a vehicle he was in. He then parked the vehicle and stepped out armed with an AK-47-style rifle.
Diagne opened fire on people along West Sixth Street and nearby roads. Four people were killed, and 15 others were injured. Police fatally shot Diagne.

The suspect, Dustin Johnson, tried to force his way inside but was confronted and injured by another individual. Johnson then left the scene and went to his parked vehicle.
He later returned and shot and killed the person who had injured him, along with another individual who entered the business. Both were pronounced dead. Johnson fled and drove to a nearby home, where he rammed his vehicle into the property.
He then got out of the car and opened fire inside the home. One person was killed, and five others were injured, one of whom later died at a hospital. Johnson was later shot and killed by police during an exchange of gunfire.
