A 31-year-old man was fatally shot after he got into a fight with an off-duty cop.

Cody Castillo, a line man from Huntsville, Texas, was working in the Bahamas for energy firm Pike Electric, as confirmed by his family. Cody Castillo and his wife, Makayla Castillo, 29, were expecting their first child, a baby boy, in August.

According to a close friend of Castillo, he was supposed to fly back to Crawfordville, Florida home this week to celebrate his wedding anniversary. “Cody’s family is in complete shock that he would ever be a victim of something like this. It’s just so hard to believe,” the friend said while speaking to the Daily Mail.

“He was a hardworking man, a devoted husband, and he was so excited to become a father. He wasn’t an angry person. He was kind, gentle, and the type of person who would never hurt anyone. Truly one of the best people you know,” the friend said.

Castillo allegedly climbed into his work truck and drove toward the off-duty officer when the altercation spilled into the street on March 21. According to authorities in Nassau, Bahamas, the officer feared for his life and responded by drawing his service weapon and firing a single fatal shot.
