A dispute over a cellphone led to a woman being sentenced to 180 days behind bars for stabbing her sister

According to multiple reports, the incident unfolded at about 3:30 p.m. on October 26, 2025, at a residence in the 21100 block of Southwest 92nd Avenue in Cutler Bay when the victim, who was sleeping on the sofa, woke to find Lynn My Le going through her phone.

After confronting her sister and attempting to retrieve her phone, the victim was attacked with a knife, according to investigators.

As the victim "attempted to flee from the subject by running towards the front door," she was stabbed four more times in the back and additional six times after collapsing.

The suspect only stopped when "The victim pleaded for her life," according to the affidavit.

Upon their arrival, authorities spotted the victim suffering about 10 puncture wounds. At the time, Detective Samantha Choon confirmed to the Miami Herald that "The teen is critical, but stable."

Le was subsequently arrested and was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. According to The Tampa Free Press, her attempted murder charge was dismissed after a judge issued a domestic violence stay-away order. As a result of the reduced charge, her sentence was focused more on probation rather than prison time.

Le's 180-day sentencing generated discussion on social media, with users highlighting that the sentencing was not severe enough.

"180 days? Good grief we are getting ridiculous with crime," one user wrote.

"This is crazy! Why would a judge even agree to only 180 days in jail and on a d*mn aggravated battery charge!!! Should have been attempted murder with years behind bars or life. What the heck is going on with our justice system!!! No wonder so many are attacking people. Just a slap on the wrist!" another user commented.

A third Facebook user questioned the sentence, comparing it to a relative's two-year prison term for a drug offense.

"My sister is a recovering addict. She was sentenced two years in prison for the drugs she had on her when she got picked up and she didn’t have a record before this… but she did break the law and deserved time, I was just surprised by the length of time. All this woman got was 180 days for a violent crime?? That’s just wild to me."

Another user voiced similar views, writing: "I thought she would get life in prison ……. Why wasn’t she charged with attempted murder ??? If the person is still alive I don’t know if the victim survived but I think she should have been charged with murder if the person died …. If they survived she should have be charged with attempted murder and battery charge."
