Woman’s Chilling Question After Murdering Two

The suspect, Susan Avalon, was charged with killing David Scott in Bradenton, followed by murdering Timothy Fletcher in Tampa. On the day of the incident, officials from the Manatee County Sheriff’s office received a tip that prompted them to conduct a welfare check on Scott.

When deputies arrived, they found the first victim suffering from a gunshot wound and lying on the doorstep. He was still alive when first responders arrived, and Scott said that it could have been his ex-wife who was the shooter.

Meanwhile, Scott and Avalon’s daughter said that she heard three gunshots before spotting a vehicle speeding away. The description of the car and other evidence from the crime scene helped deputies locate Avalon in Citrus County.

When officers approached Avalon about her ex-husband, she reportedly said: “Which one?” It immediately prompted Manatee County deputies to conduct a welfare check on her second ex-husband.

Fletcher was found dead from a fatal gunshot wound at his residence. Scott, also succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities To Seek Death Penalty For Accused

According to investigators, Avalon first killed Fletcher in Tampa. She then drove off to Scott’s residence and shot him on his doorstep.

Based on the nature of the crime, she was charged with first-degree premeditated murder in connection with Fletcher's killing. For Scott's death, Avalon was charged with second-degree murder. During her trial, she pleaded not guilty to the twin murders committed on the same day. The motive has not been determined, and investigation is ongoing.

The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office issued a statement regarding the case. It said prosecutors must identify and examine the ‘statutory aggravating factors’ under Florida law to pursue the death penalty.

An excerpt from the statement by State Attorney Suzy Lopez read, “While our case focuses on one victim here in Hillsborough County, we know this tragedy did not end with one life. Two families are grieving, and we are committed to seeking justice while standing with everyone impacted by this senseless violence.”

Avalon is expected to make her next court appearance in Hillsborough County for a status hearing on July 9. She also has a case management hearing in Manatee County on July 30.
