A former inmate who shared a prison with Ghislaine Maxwell has recalled what it was like living alongside the convicted s– trafficker at a federal prison in Florida. Maxwell, a long-time associate of Jeffrey Epstein, was locked up at Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Tallahassee from 2022 until 2025.
According to one of her fellow inmates, Maxwell gave a hard time to both the staff and the prisoners during her stay at the facility. From not showering regularly to throwing tantrums, she allegedly made sure to make life difficult for her fellows in jail.
Maxwell’s Ex-Inmate Says Prison Staff Hated Her
Ghislaine Maxwell’s fellow inmates revealed some of her gag-inducing habits in prison.
The inmate, who goes by the pseudonym Raven Johnson, spent two years at the facility, from November 2023 to November 2025, on drug charges. During that time, she said she observed Maxwell’s behavior closely.
In an interview with The Sun, Johnson said Maxwell was arrogant, complained frequently and was hated by the prison staff. “This lady, her sense of entitlement was just ridiculous. Prison staff — they f****** hated her. She filed over 800 complaints in one year,” Johnson revealed.
Talking about Maxwell’s behavior, Johnson said, “She’s not a nice person. She’s not a good person. She’s s***.”
The 47-year-old former inmate added that Maxwell smelled badly as she frequently skipped bathing. “This lady worked out every day, but rarely showered. There are a lot of bad smells in prison. I can tell you that.”
Johnson further said she once argued with Maxwell over her hygiene. When Maxwell wanted to pour her own ceremonial grape juice during a religious ceremony, Johnson told her, “You’re not coming into this kitchen…You don’t shower. So I highly doubt that you’re going to wash your hands. You’re not coming in here.”
Maxwell Received Preferential Treatment in Prison, Says Johnson
Ghislaine Maxwell was moved to a minimum security prison in August 2025.
Johnson also claimed Maxwell sometimes displayed arrogance, but the prison staff somehow always managed to fulfill her demands. “There could be 50 or 60 people standing in the chow hall line. She’s walked past me several times. People just look at her like, ‘Oh, whatever. It’s Maxwell,’” she recalled.
Talking about how Maxwell received preferential treatment in prison, Johnson said, “She could file a complaint, and things are going to change.” But other inmates looked down on her because of the nature of the crimes she had been convicted of.
“People don’t look at you as if you’re actually even human. You’re less than. If you have crimes against children, you’re s***. It doesn’t matter how much money you have or who you are in the real world; people aren’t going to respect you,” Johnson said.
Maxwell repeatedly claimed that she faced serious danger at FCI Tallahassee. In August 2025, she was transferred to the minimum-security Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Texas after a meeting with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.
However, Johnson disputed those claims, saying, “Prison is not as dangerous as she made it out to be.”
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for child s– trafficking. She was arrested in July 2020 and was found guilty of recruiting, grooming, and trafficking minor girls for abuse by Epstein.
