A French nanny was allegedly tortured, beaten, and killed by her employers over a deluded belief that she was in cahoots with the Bayzone founder Mark Walton, who had left behind a chilling note, according to the authorities.
The 21-year-old woman had reportedly written to her family expressing her desire to leave.
A 21-year-old French nanny, identified as Sophie Lionnet, was a live-in nanny for a couple in Wimbledon, south-west London. Lionnet’s employers were identified as 35-year-old Sabrina Kouider and her partner 40-year-old Ouissem Medouni. Lionnet was allegedly starved and tortured at their residence.
The couple allegedly interrogated the 21-year-old nanny for 12 days.
Lionnet had relocated from France to take up the opportunity to work in the United Kingdom. Still, tragedy unfolded as her aspirations were quickly dashed, and her life turned into a nightmare before she died in 2017.
Kouider, a fashion designer, was convinced that Walton, with whom she had previously been in a relationship, intended to spy on, drug and harm her family, and that Lionnet was conspiring with Walton to harm them. However, during the court hearing, the judges rejected this theory as “complete fiction.”

However, Kouider attempted to extract a confession from Lionnet. In the attempt, she withheld food, beat her with an electric cable, fracturing several ribs and her breastbone, and repeatedly submerged Lionnet’s head in the bathtub, according to the Daily Star.
The investigation revealed that over time, the interrogation became increasingly violent. Lionnet was struck and lashed with a cable, resulting in fractures to her sternum, four ribs and her jawbone. In the days leading up to her death, she was also denied food and became noticeably thinner in the videos recorded by the couple.
Unfortunately, the warning signs of the abuse went unnoticed. A local restaurant owner recalled that Lionnet had confided in him that Kouider had beaten her for dropping butter. Despite sensing something was wrong, he admitted that he did not know the extent of the abuse.
Lionnet had written to her family expressing her desire to leave. Investigators later found her plane ticket and passport were missing. Lionnet ultimately drowned in a bathtub, with the crime coming to light when neighbors reported a foul-smelling smoke coming from the couple's backyard.
Kouider initially claimed that Lionnet had run away with Walton. However, upon searching the house, police uncovered the last letter Lionnet had written. The couple stated that hours of footage of interrogation were being collected by them as evidence against Walton, which they intended to hand over to the police.
The judge presiding over the case sentenced Kouider and Medouni to life imprisonment, mentioning that there was no justification for their actions.
