From Anakin Skywalker to Now: Jake Lloyd’s Journey Beyond Hollywood Fame

Where and how is Star Wars Jake Lloyd now?
Jake Matthew Lloyd, who is famous for playing young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars, recently drew attention online after a rare image of him was quickly spread. The actor who had stepped away from Hollywood is now 37 years old and gave a glimpse into his very private life when he was clicked with fellow actor Daniel Logan last year.
Logan shared the photo on Instagram, writing, “Just spent the day with my brother #jakellyod.” Though the two actors were part of the same franchise, they never had any scenes together. Logan appeared in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Meanwhile, Lloyd appeared in Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.

The image quickly spread online, gaining attention from fans and fellow cast members. Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy, reacted with a heart emoji.
Llyod’s appearance comes after years of personal challenges following his early fame. He left acting in 2001, just two years after his breakout role. In a 2012 interview, he spoke about the bullying he faced at school.
“Other children were really mean to me,” he said. “They would make the sounds of the lightsaber every time they saw me. It was totally mad. My entire school life was really a living hell.”
He also described the pressure of media attention at a young age. While promoting the film, Lloyd said he had to do 60 interviews a day, adding, “I’ve learned to hate it when the cameras are pointed at me.”
In the years that followed, Lloyd also faced legal issues, which further attacked his mental health. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2008. In 2024, his mother, Lisa Lloyd, revealed that he had been hospitalised after a psychotic break. He spent about 18 months in a mental health rehabilitation facility.
By early 2025, Lloyd was in a much better place. In an interview with journalist Clayton Sandell, he said he was feeling “pretty good” after the treatment. “I can now accept taking on continued treatment, therapy, and my meds,” he said.

Lisa Lloyd has also addressed claims that her son’s struggles were caused by the backlash to The Phantom Menace. She said his condition was genetic. “It would have happened anyway,” she explained. I believe that it was genetic. And his psychiatrist also agrees that Jake was going to become schizophrenic.” She added that she has always protected him from negativity and from people.
