A coroner has called an Oct. 12 press conference to reveal Gabby Petito’s cause of death.

The information should shed light on how the 22-year-old was killed, but likely not who killed her. The announcement will be a major update into Petito’s death. Her remains were found in a Wyoming national park on Sept. 19.

Petito and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie were on a cross-country trip and posted videos and photos to social media about their travels. In early September, Laundrie returned to Florida, but Petito did not. Ten days later, her family reported her missing.

The case became a national phenomenon, and on Sept. 19, federal investigators said they found Petito’s remains. Laundrie was named as a person of interest in the case but disappeared before police could speak to him.

Days after Petito’s remains were found, federal officials announced Laundrie had been charged and accused of fraudulently using Petito’s credit card.

Police have spent weeks looking for Laundrie with no success. Many consider him to be a suspect in Petito’s homicide.
