Gypsy-Rose Blanchard Faces Backlash For Talking About Mother’s Murder on Viral TikTok Trend

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard addresses her past during a viral “We listen and we don’t judge” social media trend.
Gypsy-Rose Blanchard has sparked criticism after opening up on social media about the murder of her mother and her subsequent time in prison.
The 34-year-old, who conspired with her then-boyfriend to kill her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, in June 2015, participated in a viral social media trend called “We listen and we don’t judge”.
The TikTok trend involves couples or friends confessing to secrets, embarrassing stories, or confessions while the listener promises not to react negatively. In a video shared by influencer Natalie Reynolds on March 21, Blanchard is seen discussing the murder of her mother.

What Gypsy-Rose Blanchard Said
“We listen and we don’t judge: I went to prison for eight and a half years because I ...” Blanchard said, before making a choking noise and adding, “... my own mom,” according to People magazine.
While Reynolds appeared surprised, Blanchard reassured her, “Hey, we listen and we don’t judge,” before they moved on to other topics.
Social media users were quick to call out the influencer. One person wrote on Instagram, “I - killed my mom. We listen and we don’t judge. Sad thing is… You thought this was cute.” Another added, “This is so disappointing.”
“Oh yikes. It was one thing that she snapped out because of trauma. It’s another to be flippant about it for TikTok views. I’m feeling less and less supportive,” an Instagram user commented.
The Context
Gypsy-Rose Blanchard murdered Dee Dee Blanchard at her home in Missouri after her mother allegedly forced her to pretend to be disabled and terminally ill for years.
According to reports, Dee Dee regularly shaved Blanchard’s head, allegedly telling her that since her medication would eventually cause hair loss, it was best to shave it in advance. She always carried an oxygen tank and feeding tube with her and fed her daughter a liquid nutrition supplement even in her 20s.
In 2016, Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges. Her boyfriend was also taken into custody.
Blanchard was released on parole on December 28, 2023, after serving eight years of her ten-year sentence. Following her release, she gave several television interviews.

Gypsy-Rose’s Statement
“I've taken accountability and now, I take back my life. When I accepted my sentence, I accepted the weight of my choices. I served my time. That was my accountability and I’ve carried it for years. I don’t owe the past anything more,” Blanchard wrote in a now-deleted video in 2025.
She described her “next chapter” as “one of healing. Of growth. Of reclaiming my life,” according to People.
“This is freedom. And I’m moving forward with clarity, peace, and self-forgiveness. The Justice system has decided. The case is closed. This is justice for Dee Dee, as well as myself, who the system failed all my life. Justice was served and so was my time,” she added.
