A man in Colorado will spend the rest of his life in prison after he shot through the door of a hotel room, injuring three people and killing a fourth.

Luis Estrada, 22, recently was sentenced in connection with the incident that occurred a year and a half ago at Hyatt House Hotel in Aurora, KCNC-TV reported.

According to police, Estrada got into an argument with other guests in a room on the hotel’s sixth floor around 2 a.m. on Oct. 2, 2021. After he and a second man were shoved out of the room, Estrada is accused of shooting into the door multiple times.

Angel Ruiz, 18, was struck and later died from his wounds. A 17-year-old girl, and two men, ages 22 and 23, were injured in the attack.

“When you consider the small size of the hotel room, how many people were inside and how many times this Defendant fired into it, it's a miracle that more of these young people were not killed,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Gary Dawson said after Estrada’s January conviction.

Dawson added: “Angel Ruiz died in that hotel room not knowing the name of the person who fired through the door or even seeing the face of his killer. But the jury did.”
