Devin Dube has been charged with assault and murder.

The Hudson Police Department arrested a 29-year-old man, Devin Dube, on March 31. Prior to the arrest, police had received multiple calls reporting Dube's violent behavior inside the residence he shared with other family members. The 90-year-old victim, Elaine Dube, also lived in the same residence.

The Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said Dube, who allegedly killed his grandmother, was being charged with assault and murder.

“This is a senseless tragedy, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted during this incredibly difficult time,” Hudson Police Chief Richard DePersio said during a press conference held on March 31. “I want to reassure the community that there is no ongoing threat to the public,” DePersio added.

Dube was arraigned on April 1 at the Marlborough District Court, where a judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Forensic psychologist Hillary Novak performed a preliminary exam on Dube. Novak told the court that she had previously examined Dube in 2023 and the 29-year-old suspect had a history of schizophrenia and was not taking his medication. The suspect reportedly told her he was having auditory hallucinations on the day of the alleged murder, according to Novak.

“With everything I have seen, it leaves me to question his competency to stand trial,” Novak told the court.

Dube, who is currently held without bail, has been sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for a mental health evaluation. He is due back in court on April 17.

Background

The police were called to the suspect's home at around 3:30 p.m. on March 31 on Munson Street. A woman called 911 to report she was being attacked with a skateboard, according to the District Attorney's Office.

A male resident then called the police to report a continuing altercation inside the home, including the alleged attack on the 90-year-old grandmother, who lived in the basement apartment of the property. When the police arrived, Dube allegedly fled the scene.

About 45 minutes later, police received a third call from an address near Town Street, reporting an individual running around on the property. According to the District Attorney’s Office, police found Dube hiding in a van and arrested him without incident.
