An Arizona teenager is headed to prison for mowing down a 75-year-old woman with his car. Dashcam footage showed him getting out to check the condition of the victim before deciding to “take off” from the scene, according to prosecutors.
Teen to be sentenced for mowing down a 75-year-old grandma.
The accused teenager from Arizona, identified as Alexis Eduardo Ibarra-Guerrero,18, was driving without a license when he struck a 75-year-old grandmother, identified as Sally Rodriguez. The incident took place on November 3, 2025, as she was walking toward a bus stop to head to work. Rodriguez was only two blocks away when police found her lying on the sidewalk.
In an interview with the local NBC affiliate KVOA, one of Rodriguez’s six children, named Mariea Rodriguez-Romero, said, “She was on top of the hood of the car.”
According to authorities, Ibarra-Guerrero struck the septuagenarian and then drove for several blocks with Rodriguez on top of the hood of his car. Investigators said that after Ibarra-Guerrero drove for several blocks, Rodriguez either fell or was pushed in the 200 blocks of West Tennessee Street in Tucson.
“He essentially looked at the victim…and decided to take off,” a prosecutor said in court after Ibarra-Guerrero was arrested and presented in court, according to KVOA.
According to KOLD reports, the teenager driving the car is not a U.S. citizen. He turned himself in regarding the hit-and-run case, but was not found responsible for Rodriguez’s death because the collision was ruled an accident. He was, however, charged with one count of failure to remain at the scene of a fatal collision, to which he pleaded guilty.
A Pima County judge sentenced Ibarra-Guerrero to 21/2 years behind bars. The judge credited the 100 days that he has already served, according to KOLD.
The victim’s family has, however, condemned the decision. One of the family members said during the hearing in court that Ibarra-Guerrero should have been sentenced to more time. “He needs to face consequences like a grown man should. He messed up, and now he should face the music," a family member said during the court hearings.
Ibarra-Guerrero’s lawyer said that although he has accepted responsibility for fleeting, “the evidence in this case goes to show that this was an accident,” according to KOLD.
A GoFundMe launched for the victim’s family described the victim as “a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a pillar of our family and community.”
Ibarra-Guerrero will be released after completing his sentence, unless he is deported.
“The choices people make have serious consequences,” one of the victim’s sons said.
