A 43-year-old man from Wisconsin, identified as Aaron Nelson, was arrested by the authorities in connection with his wife’s disappearance. The Dodge County Sheriff’s office announced Nelson’s arrest on May 18th. Nelson has been formally charged with first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse by the Dodge County District Attorney’s office, according to the announcement made by the Sheriff’s office.
“He is currently being held in the Dodge County Jail,” the statement read. Authorities added that no additional details would be released “out of respect for the family, the judicial process, and the continued integrity of the investigation.”
The victim has been identified as a 42-year-old woman named Alexis Nelson. She was last seen in May 2025, according to WISC reports. Prosecutor alleges that Nelson had been abusive toward Alexis, even before the incident of her disappearance. The prosecutors also mentioned that she filed a restraining order against him on the alleged domestic incident.
The authorities first publicly appealed for information in February 2026, when the Dodge County Sheriff's Office and Beaver Dam Police Department announced that they had been investigating the disappearance of Alexis “over the past couple of months.”
A post on the official Facebook page of the Sheriff’s office read, “If you, or someone you know, has had contact with Alexis Nelson or her husband, Aaron Nelson, over the last year, please reach out to our tipline.”
The couple was last seen together on surveillance footage at a Beaver Dam Kwik Trip on March 29th, last year, according to a criminal complaint cited by WISC. Phone records allegedly showed that Alexi’s cellphone later travelled to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, before Nelson purchased a 32-gallon trash can the following day, according to Law&Crime reports.
Prosecutor alleges that shortly after the disappearance of Alexis, Nelson created a Facebook account under the name “James Nelson” and listed his relationship status as “widowed,” according to the reports of WISC.
Authorities also alleged that Nelson met another woman on Tinder in April 2025 and moved in with her by the end of the following month. Investigators later noticed the woman was wearing Alexi’s wedding ring, according to the outlet.
In June, investigators executed a search warrant at the girlfriend’s residence, where authorities allegedly discovered a 32-gallon trash can that later tested positive for Alexis’ blood, WISC reported. The outlet also reported that a cadaver dog alerted to a shed in the property where the trash can had allegedly been stored.
Alexis’ remains have not been recovered, and the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed there has been no official documentation of her death within the state, according to the media reports.
