A Texas woman is behind bars after she drowned her husband, according to authorities.
Around 3 p.m. on Aug. 16, a 911 caller reported seeing a woman holding down a man in a creek in Denton, police said, WFAA reported.
Officers responding to the scene claimed the woman, identified as Dora Alvarez Maldonado, 44, initially claimed an “unknown male” was responsible for her husband’s death.
She later admitted to detectives that “this male did not exist, and she had drowned her husband,” police said.
Maldonado was arrested and charged with murder. She was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
The victim’s name has not been released. Police have not released a motive for the alleged murder.
