On the day of the incident, deputies with the Muncie Police Department were dispatched to the 2700 block of S. Walnut Street around 5:30 p.m.
They found three people suffering from gunshot wounds and took Davis into custody. He initially told investigators he was “protecting himself,” according to Fox 59.

Raines suffered “numerous gunshot wounds to the face, chest, abdomen, and back,” according to charging documents. She was transported to the IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A 40-year-old victim who was airlifted to the hospital remains in critical condition. Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man was treated for his injuries and discharged after spending a week in the hospital.
Additional Details
According to court documents, Raines attempted to leave Davis on May 8, but was allegedly prevented from doing so after he struck her in the head and confined her inside the home. Two days later, when she tried to leave again, Davis allegedly caught up with her and punched her in the head.
Investigators said Raines was carrying a firearm, which Davis allegedly took from her before grabbing her by the leg and dragging her back toward the house.
“At first, I thought it was just two kids messing around,” Michael Hennessey, one of the alleged shooting victims, told FOX59/CBS4. “Then, I looked closer and realized it was a guy dragging a girl down the road by her ankles.”
According to Hennessey, he and another man stopped to intervene, but Davis allegedly opened fire on their vehicle.
“I jumped out of my door, ducked behind the truck, and I saw Jeremy and her both lying on the ground,” Hennessey said. “Almost as soon as I switched directions, it felt like I got hit with a baseball bat.”
Davis shot all three victims and appeared “emotionless and cold as he fired the gun.”
Court documents state that a witness told police Davis shot all three victims and appeared “emotionless and cold as he fired the gun.” Investigators further allege that after the shooting, Davis returned to the house and later emerged before surrendering to responding officers.
Davis’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 27. He is being held without bond in the Delaware County Jail.
