Woman Pulled Gun From Fanny Pack and Told Children She Would “Blow Up” Park
Ashley Nicole Maxwell has been charged for intimidation with a deadly weapon.
According to reports, Maxwell pulled a handgun from her fanny pack and pointed it at children between the ages of 7 and 14. The children later told officers she made threats. And allegedly told them that she would “blow up” the park and “light up” one of the children.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Witnesses contacted authorities, and officers located Maxwell less than 20 minutes later during a traffic stop nearby. Police said there were six children in her vehicle at the time.
Officers reported smelling marijuana on Maxwell during her arrest . She allegedly admitted to possessing a joint in her pocket. During subsequent search, officers also recovered a pink bonnet from one of her pockets.
The 31-year-old woman allegedly pulled out her gun and told the children that she would “blow up” the park.
Police later executed a search warrant for Maxwell’s home. Inside, investigators found ammunition, firearm accessories and a handgun that Maxwell allegedly asked another person to hide outside the residence.
Authorities believe the weapon matched the firearm described by the children at the park.
Maxwell is scheduled for a court hearing on July 17. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges have not been ruled out.
Police urged the public to report any suspicious or threatening behavior immediately, especially in public places frequented by families and children.
The case has drawn attention because the threats occurred in a place meant for recreation and safety. Parks are often frequented by children and families, especially on weekends. Incidents like this raise concerns about how easily weapons can be brought into public areas.
