Lancaster County Man Charged After Alleged Pipe Bomb for ‘Entertainment’ Accidentally Goes Off

Travis Peachy has been taken into custody at Lancaster County Prison with bail set at $500,000.
In a bizarre incident, a Lancaster County man was taken into custody after accidentally detonating a pipe bomb in his shed on April 11.
Travis Peachy, 51, is facing multiple felony charges following the incident outside his home on Jacobs Road near Spotts Road, according to WGAL. Authorities said his wife and children were nearby at the time of the explosion.
Travis Peachey thought the explosion would 'entertain' his guests.
The Details
Peachy allegedly told authorities he had built the bomb to 'entertain guests' who were expected to visit.
After realizing they were not coming, he attempted to disarm the device but accidentally dropped it, triggering the explosion.
Peachey used a PVC pipe filled with six ounces of black powder and a motorcycle switch to ignite the explosion, court documents obtained by Fox 17 stated.
Following the accident, Peachy told his wife he needed to go to the hospital. Police said his face and one of his eyes were injured, and shrapnel from his head was extracted and sealed into evidence.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Charges
Authorities charged Peachy with the following felony offenses:
- Endangering the welfare of children
- Risking catastrophe
- Possessing explosive material
- Aggravated assault
Investigators said they found a hole in the shed floor, believed to be connected to the incident, after searching Peachey’s property.
After being arraigned, Peachy was taken into custody at Lancaster County Prison with bail set at $500,000, according to ABC27. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 15.
Following the accident, Peachy told his wife he needed to go to the hospital.
In an unrelated incident, a Penn Township man was charged with intentionally striking a juvenile bicyclist during a road rage incident in Mount Joy Borough.
According to WGAL, 64-year-old Richard K. Parmer waived his preliminary hearing, moving the case to county court.
He faces one count each of recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving.
The Mount Joy Borough Police Department alleged Parmer struck the juvenile victim with his SUV in the 100 block of North Market Street at around 3 p.m. on February 18.
According to charging documents, two videos recorded by the victim show Parmer honking his horn as he approached the bicyclist from behind before striking him.
Police said nearby surveillance footage captured another angle of the crash. In that video, Parmer can first be seen attempting to use his vehicle to block the victim’s path before hitting him from behind, despite having enough time to stop.
Investigators said the bicyclist had no room to avoid the collision.
