Man Mercilessly Kills Eight Kids

Shamar Elkins, 31, was the gunman who carried out the shooting. He died following a police pursuit. The chase ended when officers opened fire.

Meanwhile, authorities at the Shreveport Police Department are still investigating why the gunman killed the children. Spokesperson Chris Bordelon said that while detectives were unsure what set off the violent episode, the case appears to be a domestic incident.

Additionally, the police department said it was aware of Elkins. He was previously arrested in 2019 in a firearms case. That said, officials were not aware of any domestic abuse issues associated with him.

The police, upon examining the crime scene, explained that the attack began even before sunrise on Sunday. The suspect, Elkins, first shot at a woman in one home and then drove to the other location, where he gunned down the kids. One of the eight kids was killed despite not being akin to the family. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victims were three boys and five girls.

Seven children were killed inside the second house. In a tragic turn of events, the lifeless body of one kid was found on the roof, indicating his attempts to escape. Another of the children actually jumped off the roof and landed fatally with heavy injuries.

While initially it appeared that this kid would survive his injuries, he later succumbed at the hospital. A third child apparently tried to escape from the back door, but to no avail.

Marital Trouble Possibly Fueled Reason For Shootout

One of the family members later confirmed that the suspect and his wife were separating, indicating a possible angle for the tragic outburst of anger. Crystal Brown, a cousin of Shamar’s injured wife, stated that the couple reportedly argued about separation right before the shooting.

Reports later confirmed that Elkins and his wife had four children. Meanwhile, he had three other kids with a second woman, who was injured during the gunfire. On the fateful day, all seven children were in the same house.

Meanwhile, the Shreveport neighborhood seems to be rattled by the news of the deadliest shootout. One of the neighbors revealed that her security camera actually captured the moment when Shamar Elkins fled from the first home after firing two shots.

Since the incident, members of the Shreveport community have gathered around the two residences. They have expressed immense grief over the turn of events, mourning the loss of eight young innocent kids.
