Santiago Martínez was found guilty of attempted murder of Emily Ceco

According to A24, he was sentenced in March after being convicted of attempted murder, repeated assault, and unlawful detention. Martínez met Ceco on the set of the dating reality show in 2024. The pair became engaged and then married in a civil ceremony, as reported by Reality Shrine.

However, following her allegations, Ceco was granted a restraining order against her husband. Later, he was also removed from the Netflix reality series, the outlet reported. On Televisión Pública, the woman detailed how Martínez tried to end her life.

In an interview published on March 26, Ceco said that her husband choked her and smothered her with a pillow to prevent her from breathing. She claimed that when he refused to let her leave, she ran away to file a complaint against him. During the interview, Ceco repeatedly said, “He tried to kill me.”

After Martínez was found guilty and sentenced, Ceco said, “I instantly burst into tears.” She added, “My body was shaking. I felt like I had taken a backpack off my shoulders and that I was going to have peace after a long time. I was going to be able to sleep and continue with my life ... and be able to enjoy life like I fought for."

On Instagram, Ceco wrote on March 26, “There were days of so much fear, of feeling lost, of not knowing how to go on. And there was also something in me that, even in the darkest moments, chose not to give up.”

She added, “This doesn't erase the experience. But today I feel like a part of my story was heard. I... still healing, more aware, stronger, and deeply grateful. Today my life begins anew."

According to Cosmopolitan, Martínez took to social media to deny Ceco’s allegations against him. He wrote in a now-deleted post, “The first thing I want to say is that I do not justify violence in any way, and I was the first to acknowledge my mistake and to apologise [sic] privately, and today I take responsibility for what I did.”

The former reality show star added, “But that does not mean I take responsibility for trying to kill the woman I loved."
