Mass Shooting Near Illinois State University Campus Injures Six, Including Two Students

The shooting occurred outside in a parking lot near the Illinois State University campus.

Six people, including two college students, were hospitalized in the early hours of March 22 after a mass shooting in Normal, Illinois. Officers from the Normal Police Department were called at around 2:40 a.m. on March 22 to the 700 block of Franklin Avenue in Normal, according to Police Chief Steve Petrili.
All six people injured in the mass shooting sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Upon arrival, officers found six people injured, including two male juveniles who are students at Illinois State University. The other four victims included two males and two females. All six sustained non-life-threatening gunshot injuries and were immediately transported to a hospital for treatment.
Normal police officer Brad Park said the shooting occurred outside in a parking lot near the campus. Illinois State University Police confirmed that two of the injured individuals are students. The mass shooting had taken place at a short distance from the campus.
A Facebook post from Illinois State University also confirmed that two victims were students who were injured in the shooting.

The Normal Police Department and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services are collecting and processing evidence. Police Chief Petrili described the incident as isolated.
No arrests have been publicly announced by the Normal Police Department.
The motive or events leading up to the shooting remain unclear to investigators. Police have asked anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward and contact detectives at the Normal Police Department.
In a statement, Illinoi's State University Police said, “We would like to keep our campus community informed about an off-campus shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of March 22 in the town of Normal. Illinois State University Police responded to assist Normal police; the officers at the scene determined this to be an isolated incident.”
“Two of the people who were injured are Illinois University students. Law Enforcement is now focused on the ongoing investigation and supporting the victims,” the statement continued. The Illinoi's State University Police added that they will continue to provide support for the investigation and share updates as they become available.
