Matt Brown’s Family Makes Chilling Revelation About His Death

The formal announcement of Matt’s passing was made by his two brothers, Noah and Bear Brown, through their verified social media accounts, where they shared an emotional post about the news.

Bear Brown also addressed the matter on TikTok, reflecting on Matt’s long struggle with alcoholism and suggesting that his death may have been self-inflicted rather than the result of foul play.

In his statement, he said: “They found a body in the river a few hours ago, and it was positively identified as being Matt. I would have never suspected he would have hurt himself, honestly. He struggled for a long time, as I’ve mentioned. And I was so worried he was going to end up like OD’d or something like that. I didn’t think that he would hurt himself.”

Bear continued re-asserting that his brother’s death was possibly a suicide, before adding that it still needed to be confirmed by the coroner’s office. He said, “It does look as though the injury is self-inflicted. Obviously, the coroner and stuff still have to look at him and stuff, but I thought that y'all guys should know that it is him.”

On the other hand, Noah Brown mentioned that he was the one present at the crime scene when law enforcement pulled Matt’s body from the river. He added that he was able to identify his brother as was required by protocol. Noah stated, “I identified it as Matthew. My oldest brother, Matthew Brown, has passed away.”

Matt Brown’s Struggle With Alcoholism

Matt’s brother Bear Brown opened up about the former’s struggle with alcoholism in a post announcing his death. He recalled one of their last conversations where Matt admitted that he had fallen off the wagon. Bear claimed the two brothers even bumped into each other at a Walmart, where he suggested Matt must go into rehab for help.

In his words, “He called me after that, and he said that he had fallen off the wagon. And I was like, ‘Well, get back on it, man. Everybody falls off. Just get back on it. Go to rehab if you’ve got to. You’ve got this.’”

In fact, back in 2016, Matt had openly spoken about his downward spiral with alcoholism.

Speaking with PEOPLE, he had said, “I could see myself spiraling. I started drinking lightly, and then it got to be more and more. That’s when I saw the problem around the corner, and I didn’t want to be one of those guys. There was a lot of anxiety. It took a couple of days to work up the guts to tell my parents. But their support was unbelievable. It instantly made me feel better and like I could be successful on this journey.”
