Authorities in Virginia discovered the remains of an 18-year-old boy who was reported missing four days before the discovery. In a startling revelation, the remains of the missing teenager have connected the case to another homicide. However, authorities are yet to identify the other victim.
Authorities say remains of the 18-year-old is connected to another case.
The 18-year-old victim from Virginia, identified as Jayden McComber, whose remains were discovered during a search of a pond near the Caroline County line in Virginia on March 31, was reported missing four days earlier, according to a statement released by the Caroline County Sheriff’s office.
After police discovered the remains of McComber, authorities linked his killing with another deeply disturbing case, the victim of which has not been identified.
“The scene our deputies and investigators encountered was difficult,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement released at the time of the incident.
Police said the two killings were not random, however, they are yet to identify the link.
Authorities said the victim from the previous case has not been identified because the killer took “sick and deliberate” measures to make it difficult for the person to be identified, according to the statement from the sheriff’s office.
“One of the more disturbing cases our office has encountered,” the statement added.
Initially, police received a 911 call from an individual who had reportedly discovered what they believed to be human remains. The caller was shaken and contacted emergency services before approaching the scene. Deputies responded and confirmed that it was the remains of an adult male.
Police said these two killings, which include McComber and the other victim, are not random. However, authorities have not yet disclosed any connection between the two cases or the motive behind the killings.
McComber’s family have set up a GoFundMe account in his honor. “Jayden was so deeply loved. He had the biggest heart and made sure the people around him knew it,” read part of the fundraiser. “He never missed a chance to say ‘I love you,’ and those words mean everything to us now.”
“My baby, my nephew, is such a good person... Would give you anything he had!!!,” his aunt wrote on Facebook. “He didn’t deserve this,” her post read.
While talking about McComber, She further wrote, “Now we fight for justice for him. We will not stop. We promise you."
Hopewell City Public Schools said in a post that McComber was a beloved member of the swim team.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and the authorities have requested that anyone with information come forward and contact the department to help them resolve the case.
