Easton Goode has been charged for fatally shooting his father and step-father.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, the incident began when Goode’s mother found him drunk and vomiting in their home in Greenville in the early morning hours of March 11. She yelled for her husband to help her get him onto his bed, and left him there, the court documents said.

However, moments later Goode "came down the stairs and became verbally aggressive toward his mother and stepfather,” according to the affidavit.

A physical fight broke out between Goode and his stepfather Butler. However, they ‘hugged and apologized’, the affidavit said, and Goode returned to his room.

Later, another physical fight broke out between Goode and Butler, according to the affidavit. Butler “placed him in a bear hug and brought him into the master bedroom and held him until he stopped fighting," the affidavit said.

The couple left Goode, hoping he would fall asleep and the mother contacted Goode's father, her ex-husband, Kelly Goode, asking him to come to the home to assist with their son. She asked Kelly Goode to take his son back to his house to sober up, according to the affidavit.

Kelly Goode arrived at the home with a friend and roommate, the affidavit said.

Goode’s mother and stepfather were sitting on the couch, when Easton Goode came out of the bedroom and stood in the hallway entrance with his hand to his side.

Easton Goode then pulled out a gun and shot Kelly Goode, who "fell immediately to the floor," with the friend, stepfather, and mother all standing nearby, the court document said.

The suspect allegedly raised the gun again, pointed it at Butler and shot his stepfather, killing him.

Butler fell from the couch to the floor, and Goode’s mother and father's roommate ran out of the home, police said. Goode’s mother called 911.

During the interview with the investigators, Goode’s mother said "she was nearly struck by a bullet and showed me a hole in her shirt with both an entry and exit hole.”

Neighbours react

According to WLKY, neighbors expressed disbelief over the incident. Edward Parker, who has lived in the neighborhood for the past 40 years, said, “The double shooting was one of the first acts of violence he can recall.”

"I couldn't believe it. Nothing goes on around here," he said. "I imagine it was probably a family thing," he added.

Previous Criminal Records

In 2023, Easton Goode was charged with felony battery with serious bodily injury. According to a probable cause affidavit, he punched his autistic friend in the face, fracturing his jaw in five different places. That victim's mouth had to be wired shut after surgery. Court records say Goode apologized, pleaded guilty and served one day in jail.

In an interview with investigators, Goode admitted to shooting and killing both men, according to the affidavit. Goode was booked into the Floyd County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial conference on April 16. He has a jury trial scheduled for July 20.
