A 32-year-old woman from Florida, identified as Jalyn Brownworth, was arrested and charged with child neglect after police said her toddler showed signs of being exposed to methamphetamine. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, in a Facebook post, said it arrested Brownworth on April 9 after medical staff at the hospital alerted police about the toddler being exposed to methamphetamine.
Hospital staff said they found traces of methamphetamine and immediately informed authorities. They also contacted the Department of Children and Families, and an investigation was initiated.

According to police, Brownworth brought her child to a local hospital after noticing behavioral changes she found concerning. When medical staff examined the child, they suspected exposure to an illicit substance.
Police said medical staff determined the child tested positive for methamphetamine. The investigation later revealed that Brownworth had prepared baby formula using the same water she used to wash her methamphetamine needles, according to authorities.
Police said the water that she used to make the baby formula had previously been used to clean hypodermic needles that Brownworth used to inject methamphetamine.
According to police, the child was reported to be in stable condition and recovering after being exposed to the drug. However, details about custody have not been released.
According to online court records, Brownworth was ordered not to have contact with the child upon her release from jail. Brownworth was arrested on April 9 and charged with child neglect without bodily harm. She is currently in custody at the Alachua County Jail, where she is being held on a $20,000 bond, according to reports by local ABC affiliate WCJB.
However, Brownworth’s next court date was not immediately available. As the investigation is ongoing, the police have not revealed further details; however, more details will be made public as the investigation proceeds. Details regarding Brownworth and whether or not she had a history of using substances are yet to be determined.
