On January 31, Nancy Guthrie was reported missing after she failed to attend a virtual church service at a friend’s home. The friend then alerted her family, which prompted an investigation into her disappearance.

However, despite being among the first people to learn about the case, Nancy’s church friends have mostly stayed out of the spotlight. None of them has given interviews in the past three months.

Nancy Guthrie's church friends have mostly stayed out of the spotlight.

Investigative reporter Brian Entin has now revealed the possible reason behind Nancy’s friends' silence in the media. Citing sources, the journalist claimed that Nancy’s family had asked her friends to keep things private and to avoid speaking publicly about the case.

“We’ve heard from several that the Guthrie family has asked Nancy’s close friends to keep things private right now. You haven’t seen a lot of her close friends come forward and talk about her, which is different than other cases,” Entin said in an interview with Parade, adding, “No one has said anything.”

The NewsNation correspondent highlighted that, though Nancy’s friends have stayed away from the camera, some of her neighbors have decided to speak up. “It’s been interesting to see who wants to talk and who doesn’t,” he said.

Entin further added that Nancy’s neighborhood, Catalina Foothills, is a relatively peaceful area, where such crimes do not happen frequently. Hence, the locals are feeling uneasy, especially since the suspect remains at large.

“I also think people here are still nervous about the whole thing. For us covering it, we live in different states, but people who live here in Tucson, especially in the neighborhood, these kinds of things don’t happen,” Entin stated.

He continued, “And the fact that there’s no new information and they have no idea who did it, I think people are just still nervous about the whole thing, which might be why you don’t see as many people talking about it.”

Nancy Regularly Attended Virtual Church Service with Her Friends

Nancy regularly attended virtual church service with her friends.

Before her disappearance, Nancy regularly gathered with a small group of friends at their homes to watch a church service every Sunday. However, she missed the gathering on February 1. Her family then visited her home to check on her, but found it empty. Her daughter, Today host Savannah Guthrie, later revealed that the house’s back doors were left propped open when Nancy went missing.

“We thought that she must have had, like, some kind of medical episode in the night and that somehow, you know, the paramedics had come, because the back doors were propped open, you know, and that didn’t make any sense,” Savannah recalled in a conversation with her Today co-host Hoda Kotb.

As investigators began probing the case, they suspected that Nancy was taken forcefully from her home. Her surveillance camera was disconnected shortly before 2 AM. A few minutes later, her pacemaker lost connection to her phone. Despite an extensive investigation into the case, authorities have not been able to locate Nancy or identify the suspect.
