Nancy Guthrie Case ‘Making Progress,’ Pima County Sheriff Says Nearly 100 Days After Disappearance

Investigators have said that the case is making progress nearly 100 days after her disappearance.
Nearly 100 days after she vanished from her Arizona home, Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie, remains missing. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who is leading the investigation alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), said the case is making progress.
When asked whether investigators were getting closer to solving the case, Nanos told Fox News Digital, “We are,” but declined to provide further details. He also reportedly described the latest developments in the investigation as “really great” before departing in his vehicle.
The 84-year-old Guthrie was allegedly abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills following a family dinner on the night of January 31. Authorities launched an investigation after discovering blood on her front porch and reviewing Ring doorbell footage that reportedly showed a masked man tampering with the security cameras.
Chris Nanos described the latest developments in the investigation as “really great”.
Savannah Guthrie Says ‘We Will Never Stop Looking’ for Her Mother
Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie shared an emotional Mother’s Day message on social media on May 10, honoring her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.
Posting a video featuring memories from happier times, she wrote, “Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie — we miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.”
She continued, “We need help. Someone knows something that can make the difference. Call 1800CALLFBI. You can be anonymous and the reward remains available.”
“Please keep praying. Bring her home,” she added.
Savannah Guthrie said that "we will never be at peace" until Nancy Guthrie is found.
Hoda Kotb, who previously interviewed Savannah about the case on Today, commented, “I love you sg …..Bring her home.”
“You have painted a picture for the world of the most wonderful and caring mother, Savannah… our hearts go out to you on this Mother’s Day and every day,” added Andrea Canning.
Savannah’s husband, Michael Feldman, also shared an emotional Mother’s Day tribute online. Posting a picture of his wife and children, he wrote, “To the strongest person I know. Surrounding you with love on Mother’s Day.”
Sheriff Leading Nancy Guthrie Case Faces Possible Removal
Chris Nanos is facing potential disciplinary action, as the Pima County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on May 12 on whether to penalize him over his workplace conduct and history, according to 13 News.
“There are significant deficiencies in his response that I believe are so problematic that they put him at risk for removal,” Supervisor Matt Heinz told Arizona Luminaria, referring to a report Nanos submitted to the board that Heinz said failed to meet statutory requirements.
Previously, Nanos defended his department’s work after FBI Director Kash Patel claimed that his bureau was “kept out” in the first four days of the investigation.
Patel was questioned why the Pima County Sheriff’s Department sent DNA collected from Guthrie’s residence to a private lab in Florida instead of the FBI’s lab in Quantico, Patel replied that it was a “state and local matter, so it’s their call.”
The emotional tribute shared by Savannah Guthrie's husband Michael Feldman.
“And what we can do is continue to offer support,” he said. “We would’ve analyzed it within days and maybe gotten better information or more information. Our lab’s just better than any other private lab out there, and we didn’t get the chance to do that. So I understand everybody’s frustrations.”
Defending his actions, Nanos said that the coordination with the FBI began almost immediately.
“While the FBI Director was not on scene, coordination with the Bureau began without delay,” Nanos said, NewsNation reported.
“Decisions regarding evidence processing were made on scene based on operational needs. The laboratory utilized by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI Laboratory in Quantico have worked in close partnership from the outset and continue to collaborate in the analysis of evidence.”
