Nancy Guthrie Disappearance: Authorities Reveal Truth About Human Remains Found in Tucson

A streamer looking for clues near Nancy Guthrie’s home stumbled upon human remains.
A streamer looking for clues near Nancy Guthrie’s home stumbled upon human remains in Tucson, Arizona, on May 7. The YouTuber, Alec Wysopal, was live-streaming his search when he found a human long bone less than five miles from Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills home.
Wysopal then alerted the authorities, and Tucson Police Department officers rushed to the scene. The area where the bone was found was initially cordoned off; however, the crime scene tape was later removed.
The discovery led to speculation about the fate of Guthrie, who has been missing since early February. However, authorities later confirmed that the bone was not linked to the 84-year-old missing woman.
Police Say the Bone is At least 50 Years Old
Police said the remains date back at least 50 years and may even be prehistoric.
After analyzing the remains, police said they date back at least 50 years and may even be prehistoric. The analysis was carried out by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner and the University of Arizona’s Anthropology Department.
“This will be a prehistoric anthropological investigation. The University of Arizona’s Anthropology Department and the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner assisted. This is not a criminal investigation,” the Tucson Police Department said in a statement.
Reports also suggest that the bone was found at a historic burial site. However, Wysopal pointed out to law enforcement that ‘50 years is not that old’ for such a site. Wysopal is one of the many streamers and independent journalists who have been scouring Tucson and Catalina Foothills in hopes of finding clues about Guthrie.
In March, a YouTuber known as Exploring With Jim found a pair of carpet shoes inside a run-down building near Guthrie's neighborhood. These shoes are often used by smugglers and criminals they do not leave footprints. Jim said at the time, “What they do is they have a shoe made of carpet, right?”
“And then that way they can walk through the desert and see it's camouflaged, and they can walk through the desert without leaving footprints. And they put their shoe, they put this over their shoe,” he added. However, no connection could be established between the shoes and Guthrie’s disappearance.
Guthrie Remains Missing Three Months After Disappearance
Authorities confirm the bone was not linked to the 84-year-old missing woman.
Despite an extensive probe by officials and independent investigators, Guthrie has not been found. Her disappearance is soon approaching the 100-day mark. Investigators believe she was taken by force from her home in the middle of the night on February 1.
There have also been reports of miscoordination between two investigative agencies: the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Kash Patel, the FBI’s director, recently said in an interview that his agency was left out of the probe for the initial four days.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos then pushed back on the claims, saying an FBI task force member was immediately alerted about the disappearance and was present at the crime scene on the first day of the investigation.
