Despite ongoing investigations by local authorities and federal agents, Arizona resident Nancy Guthrie remains missing more than two months after she vanished from her home.

The case, which has drawn widespread attention, has sparked multiple theories, including speculation involving her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni. Now, former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer is weighing in on his alleged connection to the disappearance.

‘Tommaso Cioni Looks The Part’

On April 19, Coffindaffer took to X to share her views on Cioni, who is married to Annie Guthrie, the sister of morning show host Savannah Guthrie.

“Tommaso looks the part. I swear to goodness, I think that that is a big reason why people just want to blame Tommaso,” Coffindaffer said. “Some people might think he looks really handsome, like his wife, Annie. Others might think he looks ominous. He has an ominous look about him.”

Jennifer Coffindaffer noted that Tommaso Cioni, who is originally from Italy, has lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years. He works as a sixth-grade biology teacher and is a member of a Tucson-based band called Early Black.

Addressing online speculation that Cioni resembles the “porch guy” seen in surveillance footage tampering with a camera at Nancy Guthrie’s home, Coffindaffer dismissed the theory as unfounded.

“There is no physical corroboration when you look at porch guy’s face that we can see, when you look at porch guy’s mannerisms, when you look at how he walks compared to Tommaso. There’s nothing there to compare,” she said.

She added that much of the suspicion stems from the belief that Cioni was the last person to see Guthrie. “People want to say that he is involved because—and literally this is all they have—because he was the last to see Nancy,” Coffindaffer said.

Cioni had dropped Guthrie off at her home after a family dinner and game night on January 31, just hours before she disappeared. “Well, let’s be clear. He was not the last to see Nancy… porch guy, at a minimum, and possibly others were the last to see her alive,” Coffindaffer said.

She also questioned the motive behind the speculation. “Why would Tommaso Cioni, who was her caretaker and saw her regularly—they had Sunday dinners together—be involved? There’s nothing for them to gain,” she said, according to Parade.

Coffindaffer previously defended Annie Guthrie as well, stating, “This is a woman who works hard. No signs of money problems.”

In an earlier statement, Sheriff Chris Nanos said that the Guthrie family is not responsible for Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has already cleared the Guthrie family as suspects. In a February statement, Sheriff Chris Nanos said, “The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case.”

“To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims, plain and simple… please I’m begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism.”

Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her Catalina Foothills home on February 1. Authorities later discovered blood near the front door, and a masked individual was captured on a Ring doorbell camera. However, there have been no updates on the 84-year-old’s whereabouts. The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to her recovery.
