In her first interview since Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, Savannah Guthrie divulged several details about the day of her mother’s alleged abduction. One of Savannah’s most significant revelations was that Nancy’s back door had been left propped open when the family discovered she was missing.

“We thought that she must have had, like, some kind of medical episode in the night and that somehow, you know, the paramedics had come, because the back doors were propped open, you know, and that didn’t make any sense,” Savannah recalled.

New theory emerges in Nancy Guthrie case after Savannah’s interview.

The information has led to new theories about Nancy’s disappearance. An expert has now highlighted that the propped-open door signals a team of kidnappers could be involved in the 84-year-old grandmother’s abduction.

Explaining the theory, former New York Police Department (NYPD) detective and hostage negotiator Michael J. Alcazar said during an appearance on the Surviving the Survivor podcast, “When I heard that the door was propped open, right away, I was thinking back in the day when I was a rookie undercover, and I'm going into a place as an undercover.”

He added, “It was unfamiliar, and I made this mistake. I made this very mistake. I open the door, and I propped it open because I want my team to follow me from behind. I didn't realize there were video surveillance.”

Alcazar pointed out that since the door was propped open, the kidnapper must have been followed by someone, indicating that more than one person was involved in the crime. “So, right away, I'm thinking he's leaving that door open because somebody else is following behind him, potentially,” Alcazar continued.

“So that's what I thought. Yeah, I think that, yeah, I think maybe he's working with other people, might have been the first person at the door and just leaving it open for his team,” he concluded.

As of now, investigators have not determined how many individuals were behind Nancy’s kidnapping.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has so far released footage that shows a masked man attempting to disable the doorbell camera outside Nancy’s home. However, no arrests have been made yet.

Savannah recalls how she found out about Nancy’s disappearance.

Nancy went missing from her home in Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona, on February 1. Talking about how she found out about the tragedy from her sister, Annie, Savannah said in her interview, “My sister called me. I said, ‘Is everything OK?’ And she said, ‘No.’”

“She said, ‘Mom’s missing,’ And I said, ‘What? What are you talking about?’ She said, ‘She’s gone.’ And she was in a panic. I was in a panic,” Savannah recalled. The family initially thought paramedics might have taken Nancy to a hospital after a medical emergency.

However, they soon realized that this was not the case after contacting local hospitals. The family continues to pray and hope for their mother’s return and has promised a $1 million reward for anyone who comes up with information about Nancy.
