A construction worker was hit and killed on the interstate in New Mexico and the driver left the scene. Now, New Mexico authorities say they caught the man who was behind the wheel during the fatal collision.
Around 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 1, New Mexico State Police responded to a crash on Interstate 10 near Deming, New Mexico.
When police arrived, they found Carl Lee Johnson, 22, dead on the road. He was cleaning debris from the interstate, police said.
The van that hit him was driven by Raymond Anthony Saucedo, 23, but he fled the scene, police said.
New Mexico State Police caught up to Saucedo about 20 miles away and stopped him, authorities said. He was arrested without further incident.
Now, Saucedo faces charges of leaving the scene of a fatal crash, failure to give aid in a crash causing great bodily harm or death and failure to give immediate notice of a crash.
