After the prank, the group reportedly left the location. While they were driving on Berryhill Road, Ivey began following their car in his black Nissan sedan. Authorities said he called his girlfriend while angry and drove recklessly in an attempt to get them to pull over.
The court document states that at one point, the girlfriend "described seeing the defendant fire what appeared to be a handgun into the air." Later, when the group stopped at an intersection, Ivey pulled next to their red Altima.
He allegedly fired three shots into their car before fleeing the scene. The male friend who pretended to cheat with his girlfriend received a text message from Ivey at around 1:32 a.m. that read, "stop playin wimme bro."
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department met the group about 10 minutes after the shooting. Traffic camera footage showed a black car pulling up next to the red vehicle before "three bright bursts" appeared from the black Nissan.
Although the glass was shattered, no one inside the Altima was physically hurt, police said.
Ivey is scheduled to appear in court on April 23.
