Police said the shooting occurred during a gathering on May 2 at a picnic pavilion near Arcadia Lake, a popular recreation area north of Oklahoma City. Mostly young adults gathered that day following promotions on social media.
According to Edmond police, an 18-year-old woman died around 6 p.m. on May 5. She had been critically injured in the shooting. According to Hamm, there were several groups at the gathering. Following a heated dispute, the shooting occurred just as police were responding to a noise complaint.
Several people were injured, with one person remaining in critical condition. Some also suffered graze wounds. Others received treatment for injuries. However, Hamm said more people might have sustained minor injuries.

Authorities have not yet revealed any information about any potential suspects, how many shooters were there, or what kind of weapons were used. Hamm said that the department is currently investigating the incident. According to him, many of the injured people at the party were just “simply attending” the gathering.
On May 4, Edmond Mayor Mark Nash said that the shooting occurred at a public park, where reservations could be made for large gatherings. However, there were no such prior reservations for the party. Jeremiah Braxton, who was at the party, witnessed the incident.
He said that two of his friends were also shot. According to Braxton, the incident occurred while everyone was eating, dancing, and having a good time. However, a group of girls allegedly began having an argument over boyfriends. “It just started a whole bunch of chaos," he said.
