As the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie, enters its fourth week, concerns about her health have intensified.
It may be noted that the audio dispatch recordings shared by the Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, had specified that the 84-year-old has high blood pressure and cardiac issues, and that she uses a pacemaker. Nanos had said Guthrie has "no cognitive issues" and is "very alert, she's of good, sound mind," but is "not in good physical health."
As the alleged abductors have not taken any of Nancy Guthrie's belongings from her residence, the family believes the 84-year-old has been kept without medicines, creating fear about her health.
Health Expert Warns
Doctor explains potential health risk as Nancy Guthrie remains untraceable since January 31.
Weighing on the discussion surrounding Nancy Guthrie's health condition, as the future seems bleak with no substantial evidence yet to trace her, health expert Frank Lovecchio said that Nancy Guthrie's pacemaker has a high chance of failing if she is not taking her blood pressure medications. He said it could result in a heart attack or a stroke.
Lovecchio, in an interview with Fox 10, said that though the 84-year-old had no history of dementia, the trauma that she is being subjected to could affect her mental stability. She might be at risk of mobility issues.
Lovecchio said the chronic pain medication helps one keep the loose ends in check; however, since it has been more than four weeks without them, it can be dangerous.
Investigators had deployed a high-tech tracking tool, a "signal sniffer," to trace Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts. This tool is being used to detect possible signals from Nancy Guthrie's heart pacemaker. Officials previously had informed that the 84-year-old's pacemaker app showed a disconnect from her phone at 2:28 a.m. on February 1.
Investigations So Far
Investigative authorities urge public to share relevant information in the Nancy Guthrie missing case.
Since the beginning of the case, authorities have employed different tactics and methods to expand their search efforts. Early on in the investigation, the FBI had speculated that Nancy Guthrie had not walked out of the house willingly. Given this, the security footage from the Guthrie residence has been collected and is currently under thorough investigation. Similarly, CCTV footage from street cameras has also been taken in for investigation.
Authorities have been canvassing the area, searching roadways, and looking for any physical evidence that could provide clues about her whereabouts. A few days ago, officers from the county sheriff's office were seen checking septic tanks, suggesting authorities are investigating foul play.
Recently, investigation agencies have also cleared direct members of her family as possible suspects." The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in the case," Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.
"To be clear... the Guthrie family — to include all siblings and spouses — has been cleared as possible suspects in this case," Nanos added.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen in her Arizona home on January 31 and has been reported missing since.
