'Beyond Deplorable': Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Forcing Man to Lick Urine Off Cell Floor, Officials Say

A former police officer in Mississippi could spend up to a year in jail after pleading guilty in federal court to forcing a man to lick urine off the floor of a holding cell, according to authorities.
On Dec. 23, 2023, Michael Christian Green, 26, was dispatched to a family disturbance at the Sam’s Club, according to documents obtained by the New York Post.
Green arrested a man, took him to the police department and then put him in a holding cell. Surveillance footage then shows the man knocking on the door of the holding cell and saying he needed to urinate.
Green never replied to him, so the man can be seen in the video walking to the back of the cell and urinating in the corner, officials said.
Eventually, Green took the man to the booking area.
Court documents state Green got a call in the booking area and “was notified that [the man] had urinated in the holding cell.” Green then looked at the man and said, “Let me tell you somethin’. You see this phone? I will beat your f****** a** with it. You’re fixin’ to go in there and you’re gonna lick that piss up. Do you understand me?”
Green took the victim back to the holding cell and recorded with his phone. He again told the man to lick the urine, even after the man gagged several times, authorities said.
The incident was reported on Dec. 24, 2023, and the city said they immediately started an internal investigation. Green resigned three days later.
“I don’t understand how you treat someone like that," Pearl Mayor Jake Windham said. "The proper thing to do was take the gentleman to the restroom and not do anything of this magnitude and violate his civil rights.”
Windham apologized to the man and his family.

In a statement, city officials said the incident is “beyond deplorable” and “the charged actions have both embarrassed and dishonored the faithful officers who serve and protect our City every day.”
Green pleaded guilty to deprivation of civil rights under color of law, officials said. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 12 and faces up to one year in prison.
