Code Word for Savannah Guthrie On ‘Today’ Means The FBI is Closer Than You Think To Solving Missing Case: Expert

Savannah Guthrie as a new theory emerges in the investigation into her missing mother.
Savannah Guthrie, whose mother Nancy Guthrie has been reported missing in Arizona, has resumed her role on NBC’s Today show after being away for two months. According to insiders, the network has set up a code word system to notify her on air if there are any updates in the investigation.
Former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Jennifer Coffindaffer wondered if this meant authorities are closing in on a suspect. The broadcast journalist will reportedly be told she is “needed off set” if there is a breakthrough in the case.
Jennifer Coffindaffer’s Theory
The law enforcement expert said the code word system is an “interesting” development in the Guthrie case.
In a recent post on X, Coffindaffer said, “It’s interesting that the Today show has a plan if there is breaking news on the Nancy Guthrie case to alert Savannah Guthrie.” She added, “All I’m saying is, does this mean the FBI, the task force, everyone is close to finding the suspect. Let’s see what happens.”
Nancy Guthrie has been missing from her Catalina Foothills home since February 1, following a family dinner and game night at her daughter Annie Guthrie’s house. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working on the case for nearly two months.
An X user agreed with Coffindaffer’s theory, writing, “100%. I believe the FBI has done, and given so much more of themselves to this case than the public has given them credit for.”
Nancy Guthrie has been reported missing from her Catalina Foothills home since February 1.
“I too believe they’ve gathered and submitted a ton of evidence and have been waiting on forensics to complete their ‘convoluted’ analysis. We know there was too much activity to not have any DNA left behind. I also think we’ll all be surprised when all the details of the case are revealed,” the X user added.
When another user asked Coffindaffer if she thinks the FBI is gathering sufficient evidence to press charges, she replied, “I would be surprised if they are very close, but hearing this gave me pause.”
An insider at Today reportedly told the Daily Mail, “We would pull her immediately, mid-segment if we had to,” adding that Savannah “would understand that there was news about her mom and we’d take her into an office and tell her at the same time that another anchor would report it as a breaking story.”
Savannah Guthrie Feels ‘Guilty’
During an interview, Savannah Guthrie said she sometimes blames herself for her mother’s disappearance.
She also said that when she shared these thoughts with her brother, he agreed that her fame and wealth could be responsible for the incident.
Recalling her conversation with Camron Guthrie, Savannah said, “I said, ‘Do you think because of me? And he said, ‘I'm sorry, sweetie, but, yeah, maybe.’ But I knew that.” She added, “Too much to bear to think that I brought this to her bedside, that it’s because of me. I just have to say, I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m so sorry.”
Coffindaffer pointed out another interesting aspect in the Guthrie case. She said that Savannah’s outreach to the ransom note writer “has been religious.”
“Initially, I thought it was because Savannah was religious,” she added. “But what if the decision was made to use religion because scripture was in the note? What if the notes were from someone quoting scripture or referencing scripture? Someone who sees themselves as holy?”
She continued, “That makes so much more sense. To connect, you must connect with the place the ransom note writer is coming from, not the lens of the respondent.”
While some reports have raised the possibility that Nancy Guthrie may no longer be alive, Savannah has urged the public to continue praying as the search continues.
