Savannah Guthrie has given her first public interview since the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, in early February. The Today host sat down with her co-anchor, Hoda Kotb, to have a heart-to-heart conversation about how she is navigating this tough time.
The full interview is scheduled to be aired on Today in two instalments on March 26 and 27. However, the show has already released around a minute-long preview of the conversation, which shows Savannah breaking down as she talks about the trauma of her mother’s disappearance.
Savannah Guthrie Says Her Family is in Agony After Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance
Savannah Guthrie says the family is in agony after Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
Like her appeals on social media, Savannah told Kotb that Nancy’s alleged abductors need to do the right thing and reunite her with her family. “Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. It is unbearable,” she said.
Discussing the emotional toll of the situation, Savannah revealed she wakes up in the middle of the night and imagines the horrible things her mother might be going through. “And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night,” the teary-eyed anchor stated.
She continued, “And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now.” Meanwhile, Kotb looked equally emotional as she listened to Savannah’s ordeal.
Savannah made her last appearance on Today on January 30, a day before her mother was last seen by her family members. She is currently in Arizona as the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance continues. Meanwhile, Kotb, who retired from Today in 2025, is filling in for her to support her colleagues.

Earlier in March, Savannah visited the show’s set in New York City to thank her co-anchors for their support as she grappled with her personal troubles. “I wanted you to know that I’m still standing, and I still have hope, and I’m still me. And I don’t know what version of me that will be, but it will be. I’m holding onto my faith. I still believe,” she told her colleagues at the time.
The 54-year-old has consistently released statements on social media, directly addressing Nancy’s kidnappers and telling them that she is ready to talk and pay for her mother’s safe return.
The Guthrie family has also promised a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy. However, those efforts have so far been in vain, and no abductors have come forward with proof that she is alive to claim a ransom.
The investigation, being led by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has already entered its eighth week. The detectives have collected several pieces of evidence, including DNA samples and surveillance footage, but have not yet arrested a suspect.
