Merely days after the gunfire incident involving President Trump at the WHCD, a second similar episode of political violence was reported. This time, it involved Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson. She was escorted to safety in the middle of a news conference when gunfire was reportedly heard near the same building.

Police reports suggest that multiple rounds were fired, leaving broken glass scattered throughout the area. While the mayor was unharmed, it has yet to be determined whether the suspect had been targeting Wilson specifically.

Katie Wilson Rushed To Safety Amid Gunfire Report

On April 28, Mayor Katie Wilson was speaking at a news conference at the Yessler Community Center. She was there to announce a plan for Seattle Public Schools that emphasizes offering free breakfast and lunch to students. She also spoke about expanding the scope of childcare.

At about 5 p.m. the same day, police reportedly received frantic 911 calls about gunfire. Multiple shots were heard to be fired near the same community center. When the shooting happened, Mayor Wilson was present inside the premises of the building.

Suspect Fired Bullets From A Moving Sedan

Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the bullets were fired from a moving sedan on the road. The vehicle reportedly carried three or four people, who have yet to be identified. But the shots did not injure anyone, but struck a building and a glass door.

As a result, authorities have not taken anyone into custody since the incident. Because gunfire was heard while Wilson was still at the news conference, she was evacuated to safety by security personnel.

A spokesperson from the team of Mayor Wilson noted the incident and stated, “Shortly following my announcement of new investments in Seattle’s children and families today, we heard gunfire. No one was injured, but it was a stark reminder of a reality too many people in this city live with every day."

Mayor Wilson Reacts To Gunfire Incident

After being evacuated to safety, Mayor Wilson also issued a statement highlighting the alarming nature of the incident. She said, “We cannot let this become normal. We must invest in opportunity and continue working to keep people safe. Our work, and my responsibility, is to help create the conditions where all Seattle communities can live their lives without fear."

The Seattle Police Chief also condemned the act of shooting. Shon Barnes stated that as a community, they had no tolerance towards incidents of violence such as these, which simply jeopardise the lives of ordinary people.

In his words, “This shooting reminds us that violence has no place in our community. Our neighbors have the right to gather, speak, and celebrate without fear of violence. Addressing gun violence requires us to take a whole-of-Seattle approach that includes the criminal justice system. We must work together to do more to protect each other.”

However, the investigators are still on the lookout for the suspects who rode the sedan and openly fired bullets at the door of the community center. Detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Unit have been deployed to dig into the incident and locate the unknown shooters.

They are also said to be on the lookout for a dark-colored sedan that the perpetrators were riding in. The general public has also been urged to inform authorities of any details they may have come across related to the incident. Every little detail could help the police nab the culprits at the earliest.
