‘Sleepy Don’ Trends as Trump Appears to Nap During Public Task Force Roundtable

Clips of Donald Trump appearing to struggle to stay awake during a Memphis event are going viral, drawing sharp reactions online.
A viral video showing President Donald Trump seemingly struggling to stay awake during a high-profile roundtable discussion at the Memphis Air National Guard Base on March 23 is drawing widespread attention online.
This is not the first time Trump has been seen closing his eyes during a public event. He briefly did so during a Board of Peace meeting in Washington, D.C. on February 19. California Governor Gavin Newsom mocked the president with the nickname “Dozy Don” after clips from the meeting went viral.

Renewed Scrutiny Over Stamina
The latest incident has reignited debate over Trump’s stamina and overall health, particularly amid ongoing international tensions.
"They mocked “Sleepy Joe” for years — now their own guy can’t stay awake in public and everyone pretends it’s normal. This isn’t just optics. It’s the presidency. Focus, stamina, awareness — gone. So be honest — if he’s asleep on stage, who’s actually running the country?" a social media user questioned.
According to a statement from the White House, Trump used the event to highlight progress in restoring safety in Memphis, a city long ranked among the nation’s most dangerous. The statement credited the Memphis Safe Task Force — a federal initiative involving the National Guard and multiple agencies — with significantly reducing violent crime.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the Memphis Safe Task Force … has crushed violent crime where the policies of Democrats had failed,” the statement said.
Trump was greeted by supporters holding signs reading “Making America Safe Again.” He was joined by Attorney General Pam Bondi, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Bill Lee, according to The Kenya Times.
Social media users mocked Trump after his videos from the event went viral.
Officials said the task force has led to more than 7,400 arrests, including cases tied to homicides, sexual offenses, gang activity, and drug trafficking. Authorities also reported the seizure of 1,219 illegal firearms and the recovery of 150 missing children.
Social Media Backlash
Despite the Trump administration previously denying concerns about Trump’s deteriorating health, video clips circulating on social media appeared to show Trump closing his eyes for extended periods, with his head nodding slightly, behavior many users interpreted as him falling asleep.
This is not the first time Trump has been accused of dozing off during a public event.
The footage quickly sparked backlash online. “Trump just fell asleep AGAIN! One minute he’s ranting and raving and next minute gramps is passed out,” one user wrote.
Another added, “Trump can’t stop falling asleep in public. There is something wrong with this man. Utterly humiliating for the U.S.”
“BREAKING: Trump falls asleep in public again. Sleepy Don,” one individual commented.
After the event, Trump reportedly visited Graceland, the former house of singer Elvis Presley. He toured several of the residence’s rooms, including the well-known Jungle Room, and went through some of Elvis’ items, including an army helmet and a gold-plated Social Security card, according to NewsX.
He also joked about what might have happened had Elvis been still alive today, asking; “Would I be able to take Elvis in a fight?”
