Danny Spud was punched by his schoolmate during an anti-ICE protest.

The incident was recorded on the ICE supporter’s smartglasses and posted by him on his X account named Danny Spud. The video showed Spud entering the school hallway and yelling, “We support ICE and law enforcement. I support ICE.”

Meanwhile, the rest of the students headed outside the building for a protest. One of Spud’s classmates reacted to his slogans by saying, “That’s crazy, bro,” to which he replied, “I don’t know what’s crazy about this.”

At this point, another boy appeared wearing a brown hoodie and shorts. He looked straight at Spud and told him he was going to punch him in the face. Spud asked, “You’re gonna punch me?” After the boy affirmed with a yes, Spud said he was “going to get into trouble for that.”

The other student said, “Okay,” and threw a punch at Spud, causing his glasses, and therefore the camera to shake. A security guard then separated the two boys while their verbal exchange continued. Spud said, “I stand for my beliefs. I’m going to peacefully stand here and support my beliefs. I support ICE and law enforcement.”

The other student shouted, “You can go peacefully f—- yourself.” Spud responded, “That’s against school code. No swearing in the school.” The school security team arrived and attempted to calm the students.

Spud asked a female security officer whether he was allowed to show support for ICE. The officer said he was permitted to participate in the protest and hold a sign supporting ICE.

Spud posted the video on X and said he was assaulted by classmates for expressing support for law enforcement. He wrote, “Instead of allowing me to express my opinion, I was assaulted — just for standing up for law enforcement. What is happening to America?”

Social Media Reaction to the Incident

The clip has gone viral on social media and has drawn varied reactions. While some users supported Spud and condemned the violence, others criticized him for supporting an agency that officials say was involved in two deaths in Minneapolis. Some users also praised the student who punched Spud, turning the incident into a meme.

One social media user supported Spud and commented, “Wait, I thought they were all about free speech? How can this be? (Hope you're ok)”. Another wrote, “I hope your mom pressed charges for assault. This cannot be a one-way debate.”

Another user criticized Spud, writing, “You knew exactly what would happen and that’s exactly why you did it.” A second critic said, “I hope you look back on this years from now with shame. At least you got the attention you so desperately wanted.”

Officials at Lake Zurich High School authorities have not released a statement about the incident or said whether disciplinary action was taken.
