Authorities have charged a Tennessee man with murder after he shot his pregnant ex-girlfriend and she and her baby died a day apart.

On April 28, Brian T. Mitchell, 23, allegedly gunned down Laquisha Terrell, 23, outside Cedar Pointe Apartments in Antioch. Terrell, who was between six and seven months pregnant at the time she was shot, suffered wounds to her legs, abdomen and chest.

A neighbor helped Terrell until emergency responders arrived on the scene and rushed her to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for an emergency Caesarean section.

Terrell passed away from her injuries on May 11. The victim’s daughter was successfully delivered but was in extremely critical condition and died one day after her mother, Nashville’s WTVF reported.

Terrell’s new boyfriend, Michael D. Stewart, 28, was also shot in the chest and hip and is currently recovering at home.

Police arrested Mitchell the day after the shootings, April 29, and police have now charged him with her murder as well as two counts of attempted murder in connection with Terrell’s baby and boyfriend.

Police reportedly expect to upgrade the attempted murder charge for the child.

"He took my firstborn from me. I can't get her back,” Terrell’s mother, Toya Terrell, told WSMV-TV. "It didn't have to go down like this. Whatever happens, he will get what he deserves.”
