Tennessee Woman Charged After Allegedly Using SUV to Target Students Near High School

Tennessee Parent Arrested Following Incident Involving Students and Vehicle.
A Tennessee mother identified as Jasmine Dunmars has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault, vandalism between $2,500 and $10,000, misdemeanor assault, and misdemeanor reckless endangerment after she attempted to strike students, parents and staff with her vehicle.
The altercation unfolded after another woman, identified as Jada Hayes, confronted Dunmars about her daughter's bullying behavior.
Suspect Refused to Hear Complaints About Daughter’s Bullying
A Tennessee mother has been charged after allegedly driving into students near a school following a dispute
According to an affidavit obtained by multiple outlets, including People and Law & Crime, on April 21, 2026, Hayes, "waited in the parking lot" for Dunmars following a band meeting at Melrose High School on Deadrick Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee, with her three daughters, to confront the suspect "regarding [her] child bullying her child."
However, Dunmars "did not want to discuss the issue," and drove away in her 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
She "immediately returned" to the place when Hayes was attempting to leave in her Nissan Pathfinder. Upon her return, Dunmars "parked in front" of Haye's car in an attempt to "partially [block] her path."
Dunmars subsequently got out of her car to speak to the principal, when a fight erupted between her daughter and two of Hayes’ daughters.
The fight escalated when Dunmars "began punching" one of Hayes' daughters as she "ran to the opposite side of a vehicle from the fight."
School staff broke up the fight and moved Hayes and two of her daughters to another area near the school.
However, the fight broke out a second time when Dunmars got back into her vehicle, “turned her wheels toward Jada Hayes’ vehicle and accelerated,” toward the Pathfinder and rammed the vehicle into it.
Another girl attempting to exit the vehicle suffered an "abrasion" after being struck.
Then the 36-year-old reversed her car and turned toward Hayes and her daughters, "along with other students and school staff."
“Dunmars accelerated once more attempting [to] strike everyone with her vehicle, but all were able to move out of the way,” the affidavit added.
The woman wasn't done yet as she again "drove through the parking lot, turned around and intentionally struck" Hayes' vehicle, and continued to chase them as Hayes, along with her daughters, left.
"If you do something off of reaction, you are going to have consequences and that’s what happened," said Gwendolyn Jones, a Memphis resident, as per WREG, adding that Dunmar should have considered her actions beforehand.
"First of all, when I went to Melrose graduating in 85', it wasn’t like that. Melrose wasn’t like that, and it starts at home. Parents have to stop being our friends, and they need to be parents, that’s first of all," she added.
Authorities charged a Tennessee mother after an alleged vehicle incident near a school
Dunmar, who was later identified as the driver who "attempted to run over the citizens" by authorities, was charged on May 5. According to Law & Crime's May 15, 2026, report, she has remained in Shelby County Jail since May 8 on a $125,000 bond.
Meanwhile, damage to Hayes' Nissan Pathfinder was estimated at $7,937.61.
